LiveWire Example.

Wire on left viewed under indirect lighting.  The same wire, on right, viewed under a direct light source.  Click on the thumbnails to view larger images.

My "LiveWire"  wireform images are based on gestural sketches.  I determine which lines I wish to create using wire, and where line/wire origins begin and end.  I then create the form using my 10 to 14 gauge mechanics wire.  The final form is mounted on a patterned surface, with the wire set several inches above the background.  When viewed under indirect lighting, the piece appears to be a line drawing.  When any direct lighting is present, shadow effects are created that change with the direction of light.

My original impetus for this form came from observing the multiple shadow effects produced by our dining room chandelier, which, contains 5 separate light bulbs, and produces 5 distinct shadow effects on our dining room walls.  In particular, a floral arrangement of gladiolas, with their long, flat, blade leaves and trumpet-like flowers, created a very interesting shadow pattern.

The final LiveWires are installed on a light-weight rigid foam core board, and can be easily mounted on any wall.
