CHARCOAL GESTURAL IMAGES
Drawing on large, acid-free white toothy paper, I use a compressed charcoal stick. My first broad strokes are taken using the side of the charcoal, blocking out the shadow side of the body quickly to create movement and weight. The last few seconds of the pose are spent capturing that essence of the pose with a charcoal line. These poses last anywhere between 15 - 60 seconds. Warming up both the model and myself.
