Linda A. Levy - Digital Gallery 8 Latest Triptychs - Life Drawings The Challenge - Landscapes In October, 2007, I bought a frame for a long skinny landscape. Brought it home, took it apart to insert my landscape, and lo and behold, the front glass was bead blasted to create a white mat effect, with the image set deep in the frame. Well, the landscape looked like caca....wouldn't fit in any way shape or form. I had been working on smaller life drawings that were square, so I tried out a few, having fun making them look like they were individual pieces, each hanging inside the triptych frame. The first few were well received, so I've been playing around some more. Of course I had to go back and buy more frames.....sigh! All images are created in Painter X. No scanned, clip art, etc. All painted using Painter's myriad of brushes & variants, with my Wacom digital tablet. Enjoy! May - June, 2007: I have taken on a personal challenge to create a "painting a day" (a painting a day keeps the doctor away!). And the results so far a posted in a slide show below. I create a basic "plein air" sketch while I'm out and about hiking the north coast area above Santa Cruz, as well as created some new landscapes from older works. I use my sketches to create the final painting using Corel Painter. I typically start with a watercolor under-painting, laying in broad blocks of color. Then I use an impressionist "artist's brush" to create a sense of movement. I then go back in with digital pastels to further define specific areas that have captured my eye. I am hoping that this kind of exercise will help me break through in some new way. Enjoy! |
